Sommer Ulrickson

Sommer Ulrickson, working at Oper Frankfurt for the first time on this new production of Mozart's Mitridate, re di Ponto, was born in California and studied at Santa Cruz' Theatre Arts Centre before going to Germany on a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Recent projects included directing Maria de Buenos Aires at Theater Regensburg, coming up with the concept and directing Wüstinnen at Neu Köll Oper and creating The Art of Being Human with the Viola da Gamba Ensemble Phantasm in the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, Elb Philharmonie in Hamburg and Aldeburgh Festival. Her passion is for developing interdisciplinary projects with musicians and performers in pieces such as Love in Fragments with the cellist Alban Gerhardt in the 92nd Street Y in New York. She has worked with opera directors including David Hermann, Hans Neuenfels and Wolfgang Nägele and companies including the Opéra national de Paris, De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, the Bolshoi in Moscow and Deutsche Oper Berlin. She enjoys working closely with Claus Guth, on works including Doppelgänger in New York's Armory Hall, The Makropoulos Case and Khovanshchina at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, Samson at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and Turandot at the Vienna State Opera. She choreographed Cabaret at the Bavaria's Staatsschauspiel.
