Raphael Rösler, who was born in Mannheim and grew up in Bonn, studied musicology, philosophy and sociology at the Humboldt University in Berlin. During his studies he gained professional experience at opera houses in Berlin, including in the artistic administration departments at the Komische Oper and Deutsche Oper and as a freelance dramaturge for the Staatskapelle and Deutsche Kammerorchester Berlin. He also spent six years in the orchestra office and running projects for the German-Scandinavian Youth Philharmonic, an international youth orchestra based in Berlin.  He was a concert dramaturge for Heidelberg's Theatre and Orchestra from 2010-2012 and opera dramaturge at the Staatstheater in Karlsruhe from 2012-2017, working with directors including Keith Warner, Christopher Alden, Anna Bergmann, Tobias Heyder, Arila Siegert and Bernd Mottl and overseeing productions including the world premiere of Anver Dornman's Wahnfried  and a new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, directed by Tobias Kratzer, which was nominated for a 2015 FAUST Theatre Prize. While working as a dramaturge he wrote pieces in programmes for concerts given by the Staatskapelle Berlin, Deutsche Kammerorchester Berlin, Opera Zurich's orchestra,  the Mecklenburg Vorpommern Festival and Baden Staatskapelle. After time spent with the Stuttgart Philharmonic he returned to Heidelberg's Theatre and Orchestra in 2018/19 as personal advisor to the GMD, a post he took up at Oper Frankfurt at the beginning of the 2023/24 season, advising our new GMD Thomas Guggeis and running orchestral projects.
