»the story of babar, the little elephant«

For children aged 4+

Babar grew up in the forest with his mother, who was killed by a hunter. He fled to the city, where a wealthy lady took him in, clothed him and taught him to read and write, but he still missed the forest. He was over the moon when he met his cousins Arthur and Celeste two years later, and decided to go back to the forest with them. The King of the Elephants died, and Babar was voted the new King. The elephants harch a plan, to persuade Babar to stay, but he makes one condition …

Francis Poulenc set Babar, the little Elephant, to music in 1940 as a present for his five-year-old niece, who longed to be able hear her favourite story too. The work, originally for piano and narrator, makes the story come to life, with the use of jolly melodies.
