Subscriptions are taking a break
We want to start performing for you again as soon as possible. The current situation makes it impossible to plan in confidence, because nobody can foresee when, and before how many members of the public we will be allowed to. This means we cannot guarantee concrete dates, seats or operas. We have therefore decided it would better to stop all subscriptions until March 1 2021. Subscription holders will be sent vouchers for the performances up until March 1, which can be redeemed in the usual way for all performances which we are allowed to schedule until this date. Important information: if you do not redeem an exchange voucher, you will not lose any money.
»Happy New Ears« subscriptions are not affected by this.
As a susbscription holder, you benefit as set out below during this Abo-Pause.
Exclusive advantages for scubscriptions holders between December 1 2020 & February 28 2021 -
Advance booking benefit You can apply for tickets from the advance box office, telephone sales and Webshop THREE DAYS BEFORE tickets officially go on sale.
We still do not know when tickets for December can go on sale but as soon as we do it will appear here, our social media channels and in the papers..
20% reduction – instead of 10% - If you book extra tickets for anything else before February 28.
Surprise voucher for something small from our opera shop in the entrance foyer when you next visit the theatre.
Credit towards your 2021/22 subscription Some subscription holders now have quite a few exchange vouchers. If you are not able to redeem these this season we will offer you the chance, at the end of the season, to deduct the value of these vouchers from your 2021/22 subscription, or pay this amount into your bank account. So you will incur no financial loss.
Changes to the rest of the season:
It is very difficult to predict these with confidence either but, set out below, is how things might turn out:
We're planning 2 New Year's Eve (Silvester) concerts with the Frankfurt Opern- und Museumsorchester with Karsten Januschke and soloists from Oper Frankfurt on 31.12.2020 and 1.1.2021.
Le vin herbé by Frank Martin was to have opened in November. It has been rehearsed, even the dress rehearsal has taken place, and we are ready to open in December.
We are trying to see if the new production of Donizetti's Don Pasquale (planned for November in the Bockenheimer Depot) can be performed later in the season.
Fedora will be performed in concert, four times, because the original concept was not corona friendly. - The director Christof Loy will stage a Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt evening instead, with Lieder by Tchaikovsky - due to open in January.
Aida in February will be replaced by a new production of Verdi's Luisa Miller, director remains the same: Lydia Steier.
Boris Godunow: Keith Warner will now direct a new double bill instead: Carl Orff's Die Kluge / The Clever Woman & Kurt Weill's Der Zar lässt sich photografieren /The Tsar has his Photograph Taken - to open in May
The revivals of Carmen and Janáček's From the House of the Dead are being replaced by Puccini's Manon Lescaut and Mozart's Don Giovanni.
Our season wasn't planned to be like this! I thank you very much, despite these very unusual circumstances, for remaining loyal to us and do hope we can perform again for you soon. With warm wishes,
Bernd Loebe, Intendant
