Marcus Lobbes has ben working as a director, designer and author in drama and opera since 1995. He is also director of the Academy for Theater and Digitality, founded in 2019, and the sixth division of Theater Dortmund. He works, often on world or first performed in a place premieres, at many famous theatres and opera houses (including Schauspiel Düsseldorf, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Nationaltheater in Mannheim, the Kassel, Mainz, Saarbrücken, Darmstadt and Braunschweig state theatres, Schauspiel Dortmund, the Wuppertal Bühnen and Theater Freiburg). Innovative collective forms of work with ensembles and his close contact to contemporary authors and composers are what stands out in his work. He has been invited to work regularly as a guest professor at various leading universities and specialised schools in Germany, Austria and Switzerland since 2014. He is sought-after at home and abroad as a speaker as Director of the Dortmund Akademie; something particularly close to his heart is training and supporting all kinds of networks for the performing arts.
