Since 1992 the Austrian costume designer Alfred Mayerhofer has worked all over the world on many operas, plays, ballets, big screen films, television films and series. Recent projects have taken him to leading opera houses and theatres including the Vienna State Opera (Danton's Death, Lohengrin), the Sydney Opera House (Poppea), Opéra National de Lyon (Rigoletto), Komische Oper Berlin (Iphigenie auf Tauris, amongst others), the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Semperoper in Dresden (The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein), the Staatsoper in Stuttgart (Hänsel und Gretel), Gärtnerplatz Theater in München (La Bohème, Victoria and her Hussar, Candide and Dangerous Liaisons: 2015 Deutsche Musical Theater Prize), Staatstheater Nürnberg (Wozzeck, Der Ring des Nibelungen), the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen (Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny / The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, Tristan und Isolde, Der fliegende Holländer) and Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna (The Parisian Woman, Jägerstätter (about Herr Jägerstätter), Die Reise der Verlorenen / The Journey of the Lost): 2019 International Theater Festival Rijeka. He has worked with the director Lydia Steier regularly since 2013, at theatres including the Komische Oper Berlin (Des Kaisers neue Kleider / The Emperor's New Clothes) and Staatsoper in Hannover (La Juive and Le nozze di Figaro). He also designed costumes for television series including Ich und die Anderen / Me and the Others, M - Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder / M – A City hunting for a Murderer, Altes Geld, Braunschlag / Old Money, Braunschlag and Murer - Anatomie eines Prozesses / Murer – Anatomy of a Trial for the big screen, which won the 2019 Austrian Film Prize.
