Marlene Blumert studied film and television direction in Potsdam-Babelsberg and has made several short, and two long, films which have been shown at international festivals. She has been working as a video artist for productions of plays and opera since 2003 at theatres including the Thalia Theater in Hamburg with the directors Andreas Kriegenburg and Christiane Pohle. She designed the video for this production of Xerxes and Rossini's Bianca e Falliero (which went to the 2022 Winter Festival in Erl), both directed by Tilmann Köhler, the trailer for the Deutsche Theater Berlin where, between 2014 and 2017, she worked with Jürgen Kuttner, Tom Kühnel and Stefan Kimmig. She also directed two underwater operas: Die versunkene Stadt / The Sunken City and elementaria and was engaged as a live video artist by the International Gluck Opera Festival in Nürnberg. She has been working with children and in schools on film and theatre projects since 2018. She co-directed Christiane Rösinger's Stadt unter Einfluss at the Hebbel am Ufer Berlin in 2019, planned and carried out live camera work for Zauberberg / Magic Mountain (dir: Sebastian Hartmann) at the Deutsche Theater Berlin, Hamlet (2029) and Queen Lear (2022) - both directed by Christian Weise at the Gorki Theater Berlin and Die Gewehre der Frau Kathrin Angerer (2021. Dir: René Pollesch) at the Volksbühne in Berlin. In 2021 she was artistic director, directed and devloped concept and text for the theatre project Are you flirting with me? in the Prinzessinnengarten (princess' garden) Berlin.
