Salzburg born Harald Thor, with his c 250 scenographic designs, is a mainstay at leading German theatres and opera houses. He recently designed sets for Les Huguenots at the Opéra National de Paris, Maderna's Satyricon and Rameau's Platée at the Semperoper in Dresden, Jörg Widmann's Babylon at the Staatsoper in Berlin, Fidelio at the Gran Teatro Havanna, Lady Macbeth von Mtzensk, Simon Boccanegra and Il barbiere di siviglia at the Salzburg Festival and, most recently, Berg's Wozzeck in Würzburg.  He has also worked at the opera houses in Tokyo and Seoul. The many productions he worked on with Andreas Kriegenburg have been seen at the Deutsche Theater Berlin, the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Residenztheater in Munich, the Schauspielhaus in Zürich and Burgtheater in Vienna, where his set design for Wassa Schelesnowa was awarded a Nestroy Prize in 2016. Their most recent productions included Die Frau ohne Schatten and Der Freischütz at the Hamburg State Opera, Don Giovanni at the Semperoper in Dresden and Die Soldaten (which won a FAUST-Prize for best set) and Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, where he worked for many years. Harald Thor is also a Scenic Art Supervisor for Walt Disney Productions, designs concert halls and exhibitions and teaches at the Bayerische Theaterakademie in Munich.
