Set Designer
The American set designer Andrew Lieberman made his debut at Oper Frankfurt last season, designing the set for this new Die Zauberflöte. He regularly designs sets for leading opera houses around the world and recent Ted Huffman productions have included the world premiere of Stefan Wirth's Girl with a Pearl Earring at Zurich Opera, Denis & Katya (at houses including Opera Philadelphia, De Nationale Oper in Amsterdam, Staatsoper Hannover, Opéra de Montpellier), Braunfels‘ Die Vögel / The Birds at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg and Handel's Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno at Malmö Opera and the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen. Other operatic productions have taken Andrew Lieberman to places including English National Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Festival in Aix-en-Provence, New York City and San Francisco Opera and plays at the International Theater Amsterdam, The Royal Shakespeare Company and Broadway. He won the 2013 Green Room Award for best set design and the 2002 Princess Grace USA Fabergé Theater Award and a production of Handel's Partenope at English National Opera won the Helpmann Award for Best Opera and Lawrence Olivier Award for Best New Opera Production. His set design for Aida went on show at the 2011 Prague Quadriennale of Performance Design and Space's American Exhibit. Future plans include Gounod's Roméo et Juliette at Zurich Opera and Bernstein's Candide at the Opéra de Lyon.
