John Corbett, who was born near Edinburgh, studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow and with Prof. Hans Deinzer at Hannover University for Music, spending time as solo clarinettist with the EG Youth Orchestra, playing under conductors including Claudio Abbado, Herbert von Karajan and Carlo Maria Giulini. While spending the next three years as a member of the Junge Philharmonie he started working with the Ensemble Modern and NRW's MusikFabrik, with whom he went on many tours throughout Europe, in the USA, Japan, Korea and South America, with conductors including Peter Eötvös, Heinz Holliger, Pierre Boulez, Ernest Bour and Seiji Ozawa. He was often invited for concerts at festivals and with ensembles including Amsterdam's Asko Ensemble, the Ensemble InterContemporain in Paris and Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
