The Spanish actor and dancer Joaquín Fernández, making his debut at Oper Frankfurt in this production of Mitridate, re di Ponto, in which he took part when it first opened in Madrid, gratuated from the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático in Madrid. He furthered his studies at the HB Studio, the Grotowski Institute and the Giles Foreman Centre. He's performed in productions of Medusa and Lysistrata ( Mérida Classical Festival), Forever Van Gogh (dir: Ignasi Vidal, choreography: Chevi Muraday), Bluebeard's Castle / De temporum fine comoedia (Salzburg Festival, dir: Romeo Castellucci), La leyenda del tiempo (dir: Carlota Ferrer and Darío Facal), Le Bal de Paris (dir: Blanca Li), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Salzburg Festival), Chuvisco (Casa de América) and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (dir: La Fura dels Baus). He performed in musicals too, including Billy Elliot, Priscilla – Queen of the Desert, Más de 100 Mentiras, Spamalot and Quisiera Ser. He also works as a teacher, director and choreographer on works including El camino, Querido Adam, Retrato de familia, El silencio de los objetos, Incendios and Bosques.
