Silas Bischoff studied classic guitar, lute and early music performing techniques in Würzburg, Munich and Basel, where he started working for his doctorate. His study on the Würzburg born guitarist and composer Friedrich Brand (born 1815) was published in 2022. A much sought-after musician he has appeared at places including the Staatstheater in Darmstadt, Theater Basel, Cologne Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and leading venues including the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna. He appeared with Klangforum Heidelberg at the 2021 Schwetzingen SWR-Festival. His special passion is playing basso continuo on early plucked instruments in early Italian baroque music to J. S. Bach. In March 2020 he played the lute with the Young Stuttgart Bach Ensemble at the International Bachakademie under Hans-Christoph Rademann. He has performed with well-known musicians including the oboist Albrecht Mayer, Sir Bryn Terfel and conductors including Alessandro de Marchi and François-Xavier Roth. He was awarded scholarships from foundations including the German People's Studienstiftung and Baden-Württemberg's Kunststiftung and has been teaching at the University for Music in Würzburg since October 2021.
