Guanqun Yu

Guanqun Yu is back in Frankfurt, where she sang the title role in our new Aida and is currently rehearsing for the new production of Turandot, to jump in at short notice to sing the title role in Madama Butterfly, a role she sings later this season in Sydney. Plans include Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), a role she has sung in Los Angeles, at the Met in New York, Medora (role debut) in Il corsaro in Bari and recitals with Plácido Domingo in Dortmund and Wiesbaden. She recently returned to Los Angeles Opera for Liù (Turandot),and the Hamburg State Opera for Leonora (Il trovatore). Her repertoire encompasses leading ladies in Mozart and Italian repertoire, including Leonora at the Met in New York, Los Angeles Opera and the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Amelia (Simon Boccanegra) in Valencia, Hamburg and Frankfurt, Desdemona (Otello) at the Palau de les Arts Valencia, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and in Hamburg, Elvira (Ernani at the Bregenz Festival, Mimì (La Bohème) at Zurich Opera and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and Liù at the Metropolitan Opera, the Opéra de Paris, in Zürich, Hamburg, Cologne and the Bregenz Festival. Other engagements have included, and in French repertoire, appearances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Semperoper in Dresden, and Lucrezia in a concert performance of I due Foscari with Plácido Domingo at the Salzburg Festival. She has worked with conductors including Bertrand de Billy, James Levine, Michele Mariotti, Zubin Mehta and Cornelius Meister. Guanqun Yu won the Belvedere and Operalia competitions. She joined the Teatro Comunale di Bologna’s Opera Studio after studying in Shandong and Shanghai.
