The American tenor Corby Welch is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt, stepping in at short notice to sing the title role in our new production of Tannhäuser. New roles in recent seasons were Tannhäuser at Latvian National Opera in Riga, Siegfried, Siegmund (Walküre) und Paul (Korngold's Die tote Stadt) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Parsifal at Theater Hagen and Tristan (in concert) in Zaragoza and Oviedo. Roles this season have included Siegmund at Oper Leipzig and Tannhäuser at the Staatstheater in Karlsruhe. He has also sung roles including Alwa (Lulu) in Heilbronn and Heidelberg, Erik (The Flying Dutchman), Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos) and Peter Grimes at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Samson (Samson and Dalila) at the National Theater in Weimar. Recent engagements have taken him to the Hamburg State Opera, the Aalto Theater Essen, Teatro de São Carlos in Lisbon, Grand-Théâtre de Genève, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, to East Europe and Hong Kong. He was a member of the Ensemble at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf from 2003 - 2017, where he started off singing roles including Belmonte, Tamino, Nemorino, Ottavio, Tito, Matteo (Arabella) before tackling Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), the Prince (Rusalka), Emperor (Frau ohne Schatten),  Drum Major (Wozzeck) and Lohengrin. He has worked with conductors and directors including Ingo Metzmacher, Peter Schreier, Sir Neville Marriner, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Dennis Russell Davies, Marek Janowski, Eije Oue, Michael Schoenwandt, John Mauceri, Zoltán Peskó, Wen-Pin Chien, Helmuth Rilling, Kirill Karabits, Stefan Soltesz, John Fiore, Robert Trevino & Axel Kober, Stefan Herheim, Dietrich Hilsdorf, Tatjana Gürbaca, Christoph Loy, Christof Nel, Karoline Gruber and Dieter Dorn.
