The Swiss tenor Mauro Peter is regarded as one of the best interpreters of Lieder of his generation since winning the 2012 Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau and making his debut at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg, and is a regular guest at leading concert venues and opera houses around the world. He studied in Munich and was a member of Zurich Opera's Ensemble from 2013-2023. He has sung in theatres including the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Semperoper in Dresden, La Scala Milan, Covent Garden, the Theater an der Wien and sings regularly at the Salzburg festivals. Conductors with whom he has worked have included Ivor Bolton, Constantinos Carydis, Gustavo Dudamel, Ádám Fischer, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Philippe Herreweghe, Vladimir Jurowski, Joana Mallwitz, Riccardo Minasi, Trevor Pinnock, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Christian Thielemann and Nikolaus Harnoncourt who had a very important influence on him. He has appeared in recital at places including the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Wigmore Hall, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, Philharmonie in Cologne and the Pierre Boulez Saal. During the summer of 2023 he went on tour with Concerto Köln under Kent Nagano, singing Loge in Wagner's Rheingold, and sang his first Max in Weber's Der Freischütz at the 2024 Bregenz Festival. Highlights this season included the Prince (role debut) in Prokofiev's Love for Three Oranges at the Semperoper in Dresden, Mendelssohn's Elijah at Zurich Opera and appearances at the Staatsoper in Berlin and the Royal Concertgebow in Amsterdam.
