Thomas Riess was born in Vienna, where he studied ballet and jazz dance at Performing Center Austria before joining a private university for music and the arts when he was 16 to train as a dancer. He gained his Bachelor of Arts in 2013 for contemporary and classic dance. In subsequent years he joined show dance groups and enjoyed his first jobs in Event and TV productions in German speaking countries. He now works regularly as a dancer in music theatre productions, which this season included Candide at the Theater an der Wien. This was preceded by works including Die Walküre at the Tirol Festival in Erl, Die Fledermaus at Theater Bonn, The Merry Widow at Theater Dortmund, Peter Grimes at the Theater an der Wien and Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno at the Salzburg Festival, working with directors and choreographers including Lydia Steier, Brigitte Fassbaender, Christof Loy & Robert Carsen, Bärbel Stenzenberger, Tabatha McFadyen & Nicolas Paul.
