Angelo Pollak is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, saving the day by stepping in at short notice to sing Lyonel in this performance of Martha. He was a member of Theater Regensburg’s ensemble from 2016 – 2019, where roles included this one, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and the Helmsman (The Flying Dutchman) and he took part in the highly acclaimed world premiere of Ella Milch-Sheriff’s Die Banalität der Liebe / The Banality of Love. He moved to the Vienna State Opera’s Opera Studio in 2019, where he sang a young servant (Elektra) under Franz Welser-Möst, 4th Squire (Parsifal) under Philippe Jordan and jumped in at short notice to sing the Duke in Rigoletto. He also sang Lucano in L'incoronazione di Poppea there, alongside Kate Lindsey in the title role. Other recent highlights have included a concert tour of Canada and the USA, appearances at the Wiesbaden May Festival, a production of Carmen in Steinbruch St. Margarethen and Anton Schmid in the world premiere of the Act I of Lauren Bernofsky’s opera The Mensch. Awards included 1st prize at the Vocalis in Vaals Festival and he reached the finals of the Schumann Lieder Competition in Zwickau. He also took part in the Salzburg Festival’s Young Singers Project. He studied piano and cello at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna, where he later achieved his masters in singing. He gained invaluable experience in masterclasses held by people including Peter Schreier, Helmut Deutsch, Brigitte Fassbaender, Sir András Schiff and Robert Holl. He often joins the last two of these artists for recitals.
