Magdalena Hinterdobler, who sang her first Evas in Oper Frankfurt's wonderful new Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, joined the Ensemble in the 2023/24 season, since when she has enjoyed great success with Grete in a stunning new production of Zemlinsky’s George the Dreamer, Elisabeth in Don Carlo and Chrysothemis, a role she sang for the first time in Tirol's Landestheater in Innsbruck, in the recent new production of Elektra, her first Ellen Orfords in Peter Grimes, Princess Natalie in Henze's The Prince of Homburg and the Bride in Fortner's Blood Wedding - both new productions - and in recital with Magnus Dietrich and Thomas Guggeis. Last season she sang Tosca at Finnish National Opera in Helsinki and Senta (role debut) at the Felsenreitschule in Salzburg. She makes her debut in Bayreuth in 2026, singing Gutrune, Helmwige & 3rd Norn in Wagner's Ring under Christian Thielemann, sings the Marschallin for the first time in a new production of Der Rosenkavalier at Cologne Opera (autumn 2026) and Gutrune at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich (dir: Tobias Kratzer) in the summer of 2027. She was a member of the Ensemble at Oper Leipzig from 2014 - 2022, where her many roles included Rusalka, Micaëla in Carmen, Marie in The Bartered Bride, 3rd Norn / Gutrune (Wagner's Ring) and news of her portrayal of Anna in the world premiere of Gerd Kühr’s Paradiese spread far and wide. Guest engagements have taken her to, amongst others, the National Theatre in Prague, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Cologne Opera, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, and Staatstheater in Braunschweig, and she appears with orchestras including the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony, Dresden Philharmonic and Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. She studied with Andreas Schmidt and Helmut Deutsch at the University for Music and Theatre in Munich and Bavaria's August Everding Theatre Academy. She also enjoys singing Lieder with the pianist Gerold Huber. A CD of early Wagner Lieder was released by CPO.
