Born in Zürich, Matthijs Heugen started learning to play the horn with Simon Mattmüller at the age of 7.  He continued his studies in Basel with Stefan Ruf and Prof. Christian Lampert, with whom he has taken lessons at the Music University of Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt since 2020.  He has won many prizes, including 1st prize at the 5th »Positively Brass« competition in Trossingen. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonie and joined the Frankfurt Opern-und Museumorchester in 2021.
