Born in what used to be called Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1986, Peter Josiger started playing the violin and cello before taking up the double bass when he was 19, graduating from the „Hanns Eisler“ University for Music in Berlin under the guidance of Prof. Stephan Petzold (solo double bass player with the Konzerthausorchester) and Janne Saksala (solo double bass player with the Berlin Philharmonic) before going to the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna, to study with Prof. Alois Posch (solo double bass player with the Vienna Philharmonic). He then went to the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt in 2011 to study with Prof. Christoph Schmidt and attain his diploma, the same year he joined the Frankfurt Opern- und Museumsorchester as deputy leader. He had already gained diverse experience of orchestral playing at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Vienna State Opera and Vienna Philharmonic. In his youth Peter Josiger was a member of the German String Philharmonic for five years (as cellist then double bass player), where he gained invaluable experience, before joining the European Union Youth Orchestra later on. He is passionate about music and future musicians: being partly responsible for founding the Orchester Academy in 2015 and getting involved in climate justice and as a mobility activist for a viable future for all. Peter Josiger values the musical diversity at Oper Frankfurt: he loves operatic projects on early instruments just as much as Strauss' overwhelming operas and exciting contemporary works.
