Kazushi Ōno is Music Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya and takes up the post of Artistic Director of the New National Theatre in Tokyo in 2018. This Japanese conductor enjoyed great success with audiences and the press while he was General Music Director of the Opéra de Lyon from 2008 to 2017 – and was made an »Officier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres«. Kazushi Ōno has conducted at many leading opera houses around the world including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Vienna State Opera and La Scala Milan and has enjoyed working with choreographers including Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Jan Fabre. He is passionate about contemporary music. During his long and successful career Kazushi Ōno was General Music Director of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Staatstheater in Karlsruhe and was First Conductor, later Honorary Conductor, of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. After studying at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music he was taught by Leonard Bernstein in Tanglewood and Wolfgang Sawallisch and Giuseppe Patanè at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. In 1987 he won 1st Prize at the international Arturo Toscanini competition. He was awarded the Asahi Prize in Japan in 2015. Kazushi Ōno is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt with the world premiere of Arnulf Herrmann's Der Mieter/The Tenant and conducts two Museumskonzerts in the Alte Oper on November19th & 20th.
