This young conductor is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he made his debut in 2017/18 with Verdi's Rigoletto, for Martinů's Julietta. He took up the post of Chief Conductor of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in Canada in 2018/19. Other orchestras with whom he has worked have included the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, the Wiener Kammerorchester, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and the Bayerische Staatsorchester. Other operatic engagements this season include Rusalka at the Tirol Festival in Erl, Elektra at Edmonton Opera, Carmen at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, La traviata at Oper Leipzig and Mirandolina at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. Alexander Prior is also a successful composer: his ballet Mowgli, commissioned by the Russian State Ballet, was performed for the first time in 2008 at the Kremlin Theatre in Moscow, since when it has been staged regularly. His symphonic work Putl’lt was performed for the first time by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Alexander Prior, who studied at the St Petersburg Conservatoire, received scholarships from the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Tanglewood Music Centre and Aspen Music Festival.
