The Lithuanian conductor Modestas Pitrenas is working at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, leading this revival of Manon Lescaut. He made his debut at Cologne Opera with Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and has worked at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Bolschoi in Moscow, Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, Aalto Theater in Essen, Stuttgart Opera, Finnish National Opera in Helsinki and conducted Prokofiev’s The Gambler at Theater Basel. This winner of the 2012 Lithuanian Arts and Culture Prize, a former Chief Conductor of the Kaunas Symphony Orchestra in Lithuania and General Music Director of Latvian National Opera in Riga, is Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra in Vilnius and, since 2028/19, Chief Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra at the Theatre in St. Gallen, where he conducts The Ring in one Evening, Verdi’s Requiem and Andrea Chénier this season. Before taking up his post in St. Gallen he made a name for himself conducting symphony concerts, Salome, La Wally, The Flying Dutchman, Carmen and Massenet’s Le Cid at the St. Gallen Festival. He studied at the Mozarteum and Lithuanian Academy of Music and his repertoire includes Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Portman’s The Little Prince, Eötvös’ Love and other demons, Wagner’s Die Walküre, Massenet’s Werther, Tchaikovsky’s Pique Dame and Verdi’s Aida.
