Paul Steinburg, who was born in New York City, is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he worked on new productions of Berg’s Lulu with Richard Jones and Schreker’s Der Schatzgräber / The Treasure Hunter with David Alden, for this new production of Tamerlano. He has worked for many of the world’s leading theatres including the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Komische Oper and Staatsoper in Berlin, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Cologne Opera, the Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, Bregenz Festival, De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, Opéra national de Paris, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and English National Opera in London, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Glyndebourne, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Real in Madrid, La Scala Milan, the Bolschoi in Moscow, Opera Tel Aviv, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, New National Theatre in Tokyo, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and other leading theatres in the USA. Paul Steinberg teaches theatre design at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York City and is a member of the American Academy in Rome. He won the 2018 International Opera Award for »Set & Costume Design«.
