Paul Steinburg, who was born in New York City, has designed wonderful sets at Oper Frankfurt for new productions of Berg’s Lulu (Richard Jones), Schreker’s Der Schatzgräber / The Treasure Hunter (David Alden), this production ofTamerlano and last season's Cimarosa's L'italiana in Londra (R.B. Schlater). Future plans include a new Janáček / de Falla double bill at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg (director: Daniel Fish). He has worked for many of the world’s leading theatres including the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Komische and Staatsoper in Berlin, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Cologne Opera, the Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, Bregenz Festival, De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, Opéra national de Paris, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and English National Opera in London, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Glyndebourne, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Real in Madrid, La Scala Milan, the Bolschoi in Moscow, Opera Tel Aviv, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, New National Theatre in Tokyo, Metropolitan Opera in New York and other leading theatres in the USA. Paul Steinberg teaches theatre design at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York City and is a member of the American Academy in Rome. He won the 2018 International Opera Award for »Set & Costume Design«.
