Dirk Becker, who studied set and costume design at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, works in drama, ballet and opera. He was house set designer at the Staatstheater in Stuttgart from 2001 – 2003. Frankfurt audiences have admired his sets for productions of Ariane et Barbe-Bleue, La Giuditta and Orlando furioso in recent seasons. Recent operatic projects have included L’elisir d’amore at the Musiktheater im Revier, Andréa Chenier at the Staatstheater in Kassel and Salome at the Semperoper in Dresden, with the director Michael Schulz, with whom he has worked closely for many years – they stage a new production of Elektra at the Landestheater in Linz in 2019. Dirk Becker also works regularly on productions directed by Ingo Kerkhof, including Eötvös' Angels in America at Theater Freiburg, Idomeneo at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim and Amor vien dal destino at the Staatsoper Berlin / Schillertheater – they create a new production of L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Staatsoper in Hannover in 2019. He has also designed sets for works directed by Christof Loy, Monique Wagemakers, Katharina Thoma and Sonja Trebes at venues including the Vienna State Opera, the Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence festivals, in Stockholm, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Aalto-Theater in Essen and the Karlsruhe, Nürnberg, Mainz, Saarbrücken and Wiesbaden state operas.
