The award winning set and costume designer Jon Morrell studied at the Central School of Art and Design in London. He worked in Frankfurt for the first time in 2014, with David Alden on Rossini's La gazza ladra, returning in 2017/18 for this production of Peter Grimes directed by Keith Warner. He and David Alden have worked together for many years, on productions including Catalani's Loreley and Mayr's Medea in Corinto at the Theater St. Gallen, Otello at ENO and the Teatro Real in Madrid, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at De Nationale Opera Amsterdam, Maometto II in Santa Fe and an Olivier Award winning production of Jenůfa at Houston Grand Opera. Recent works for which he designed the sets and costumes include Gotta Dance and Cinderella at the Royal Danish Ballet and CarmenMadama Butterfly and Undine for Oper Graz's Ballet. He staged the world premiere of Georgiana at the Buxton International Festival. His costumes were seen in works including Sinatra - The Musical in Birmingham, La bohème in Glyndebourne, La Juive in Geneva and Anything Goes at the Barbican in London. He won an Olivier Award for his costumes for Top Hat.  He also worked on Un Ballo in Maschera at the Royal Danish Opera and Den Norske Opera, Katja Kabanova at the Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona and Partenope at San Francisco Opera.  This season his costumes can be seen in Manon Lescaut at Cologne Opera (dir: Carlos Wagner) and Parsifal at the Semperoper in Dresden (dir: Floris Visser).
