The Slovenian artist Boris Kudlička is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he joined forces with Keith Warner on productions including Falstaff, Il viaggio a Reims, Death in Venice, Lear and Adès’ The Tempest. Set designs for other Keith Warner productions have included their recent Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Vienna State Opera, Otello Covent Garden, Elektra in Prague, Karlsruhe and San Francisco, The Threepenny Opera Theater at the Theater an der Wien and The Devil of Loudon at Polish National Opera in Warsaw. He also worked at Oper Frankfurt with Dale Duesing on The Rape of Lucretia and Florentine Klepper on Julietta and Dalibor. Another important artistic colleague is the Polish director Mariusz Treliński. Much of their work has enjoyed international success as co-productions, including Don Giovanni (Teatr Wielki in Warsaw / Los Angeles Opera), La Bohème (Teatr Wielki in Warsaw / Washington National Opera), Tristan und Isolde and Bluebeard’s Castle / Iolanta (Metropolitan Opera in New York), The Fiery Angel (Festival d’Aix-en-Provence), Król Roger (Royal Opera House in Stockholm), Madama Butterfly (Marinskii Theatre in St. Petersburg) and Adès’ Powder her face (Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels). Boris Kudlička also works in film and theatre, designing exhibitions and as an architect (Kudlička with partners). His many awards include the Warsaw Theatre Institute Prize, the Polish Cultural Ministry’s silver medal and two gold medals from the Prague Quadrennial.
