The director Jan Philipp Gloger made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2013 with this production of Idomeneo and returned for Betulia liberata. He started his career directing plays at theatres including the Bayerische Staatsschauspiel in Munich, the Deutsche Theater and Schaubühne in Berlin, the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and Staatsschauspiel in Dresden. In 2010 he started directing operas too, at theatres including the Semperoper in Dresden, Zurich Opera, the Nationale Opera Amsterdam and Bayreuth Festival. His most important productions have included Così fan tutte at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the world premiere of Philipp Löhles Du (Normen) at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim and Elfriede Jelinek's Das Licht im Kasten / The Light in the Box at the Schauspielhaus in Düsseldorf. Projects this season include Il turco in Italia and Die Csárdásfürstin at Zurich Opera and his production of Handel's Alcina can be seen again at the Semperoper in Dresden in March 2020. Jan Philipp Gloger was chief director at the Staatstheater Mainz from 2011 - 2013. In 2018 he took on the post of Schauspiel Direktor at the Staatstheater in Nürnberg. His productions have won accolades including the audience prize at the Theatertage in Mülheim, the direction prize at the Bavarian Theatertage and the Nachspielpreis at the Heidelberg Stückemarkt. Jan Philipp Gloger studied applied musicology at Gießen University and direction at the University of Arts in Zurich.
