Jo Schramm works as a set, lighting and video designer in opera and drama. He works regularly with David Hermann,  now back at Oper Frankfurt for Schönberg / Frank Martin's Waiting for Today, which was preceded by a Křenek Triple Bill, which was voted »Best Re-discovery« at the 2018 International Opera Awards. They have staged Armide at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy, Das Rheingold at the Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, Wir aus Glas / We, made of Glass for the Munich Biennale and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the world premiere of Anno Schreier's Schade, dass sie eine Hure war / Pity She was a Whore at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Lohengrin at the Staatstheater in Nürnberg, a Mahler Lied von der Erde / Jelinek Die Bienenkönige / King of the Bees double bill at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart and Falstaff at the Opéra National Montpellier, and their new Così fan tutte can be seen at the Opéra National du Rhin Strasbourg in 2022. He regularly works on plays directed by Anna Bergmann and Tom Kühnel, at places including the Deutsche Theater Berlin, the Staatsschauspiels in Hannover and Dresden, the Residenztheater in Munich and Ruhr Festival in Recklinghausen. Other directors with whom he has worked have included Schorsch Kamerun, Johann Kresnik, Christoph Schlingensief, Michael Simon, Suse Wächter and Christian Weise at the Schauspielhaus and Thalia Theater Hamburg, the Berlin Volksbühne, Munich Kammerspiele, the Schauspielhaus and Theater am Neumarkt in Zurich and Theater Basel. His work has won many accolades from specialist magazines, including Theater heute and Opernwelt, including Set Designer of the Year, and was awarded a FAUST Theater Prize for Medea at Schauspiel Hannover. Jo Schramm worked in the lighting department at the Schauspiel in Stuttgart before studying architecture at the Kunstakademie Stuttgart and Scenography and Media Art at the University for Design in Karlsruhe.
