Alexander Koppelmann is working at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, on this new production of Turandot directed by Andrea Breth, with whom he has worked staging plays and operas for more than thirty years. These included Schnitzler's The Lonely Way at the Schaubühne in Berlin, Lessing's Emilia Galotti and Schiller's Don Carlos at the Burgtheater in Vienna, Schnitzler's Das weite Land  (translated by Tom Stoppard into Undiscovered Country) at the Salzburg Festival and Kleist's Der zerbrochne Krug / The Broken Pitcher at the Ruhrtriennale. Operas included Orfeo ed Euridice at Oper Leipzig, Káťa Kabanová  at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels and Staatsoper in Berlin, La traviata in Brussels, Jakob Lenz at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart and The Gambler, Macbeth and Manon Lescaut at the De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam. Their most recent productions included Pénélope at then Bayerische Staatsoper andMadama Butterfly and Salome at the Festival in Aix-en-Provence. Other outstanding projects included Messiaen's Saint François d'Assise  directed by Nicolas Brieger at San Francisco Opera and Madama Butterfly (dir: Alex Ollé) at the Sydney Opera House. Other engagements have taken him to the Salzburg and Bregenz festivals, the Komische Oper Berlin, Vienna State Opera and the Matsumoto Saito Kinen Festival in Japan.
