Tanja Hofmann is a freelance costume and set designer. Whilst studying at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Graz with Wolfram Skalicki and Hans Schavernoch she worked as an assistant at the Bayreuth Festival. This was followed by periods under contract assisting at the Staatstheater Saarbrücken and Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. She has worked on productions for theatres in Kaiserslautern, Regensburg, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Munich, Berlin, Bayreuth, Saarbrücken, Graz and Vienna. Other projects she worked on with Andreas Kriegenburg (whom she helped create this Tosca) were Don Giovanni at the Semperoper in Dresden, Rigoletto at the National Theatre in Tokyo, Lady Macbeth of Mtzensk at the 2017 Salzburg Festival, Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots at the Opéra National de Paris and Jörg Widmann's Babylon at the Staatsoper Berlin. They recently staged Simon Boccanegra at the Salzburg Festival and forthcoming plans include Plateé at Opera Göteborg.  Other directors with whom she has worked have included Maximilian von Mayenburg and Georg Schmiedleitner, whose production of Maderna's Satyricon at the 2018 Salzburg Easter Festival was also seen at the Semperoper in Dresden and in Modena. Se will be working again with Andreas Baesler at the Landestheater in Linz, Stefan Huber at the Prinzregententheater in Munich and Georg Schmiedleitner at the Semperoper in Dresden. Tanja Hofmann also designed the costumes for the world premiere of Wilfried Hiller's Momo at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich.
