Salzburg born Harald Thor, with his ca.150 scenographic designs, is a mainstay at leading German speaking straight theatres and opera houses. This season he designs sets for Les Huguenots at the Opéra National de Paris, Maderna's Satyricon and Rameau's Platée at the Semperoper in Dresden and Jörg Widmann's Babylon at the Staatsoper in Berlin.  He has also worked at the opera houses in Tokyo, Seoul and Havanna. The many productions he worked on with Andreas Kriegenburg have been seen at the Deutsche Theater Berlin, the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Residenztheater in Munich, the Schauspielhaus in Zürich and Burgtheater in Vienna, where his set design for Wassa Schelesnowa was awarded a Nestroy Prize in 2016. Their recent operatic productions have included Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Hamburg State Opera, Don Giovanni at the Semperoper in Dresden and Die Soldaten (which won a FAUST-Prize for best set) and Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, where Harald worked for many years. Recent projects included Lady Macbeth von Mzensk at the Salzburg Festival and Amphytrion for Schauspiel Frankfurt with Kriegenburg, Hans Heiling at the Aalto Theater Essen with Andreas Baesler Essen and Satyricon at the Salzburg Easter Festival with Georg Schmiedleitner, Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Staatstheater in Nürnberg and Nabucco at the Heidenheim Opera Festival. Harald Thor is also a Scenic Art Supervisor for Walt Disney Productions, designs concert halls and exhibitions and teaches at the Bayerische Theaterakademie in Munich.
