Andreas Kriegenburg made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2010/11, with this production of Tosca. He has enjoyed great success directing plays and operas, including Lady Macbeth of Mzensk at the Salzburg Festival, Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Hamburg State Opera, Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte at the Semperoper in Dresden, Rigoletto at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Wozzeck, Die Soldaten and Wagner's Ring at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and Otello at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. His new production of Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots opens at the Opéra National in Paris in October and he directs Jörg Widmann's Babylon at the Staatsoper Berlin in 2019. Many of Andreas Kriegenburg's productions have been invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen (a great honour) and won awards, including the 2005 Nestroy Prize and 2008 FAUST Prize. The specialist magazine Theater heute voted him Set Designer of the Year 2010 for his productions of Prinz Friedrich von Homburg and Diebe / Thieves at the Deutsche Theater Berlin, where he worked as house director from 2009/10 - 2013/14. Earlier on in his career Andreas Kriegenburg spent periods under contract to the Berlin Volksbühne, the Staatstheater in Hannover, Burgtheater in Vienna and Thalia Theater in Hamburg.
