Prof. Dr. med. Alena Buyx is a professor for Ethics in Medicine and Health Technology and Director of the Institute for the History and Ethics in Medicine at the Technical University in Munich. She has chaired the German Council for Ethics, which she joined in 2016, since 2020. She works the whole spectrum of biomedical ethics and theory, from »classic« medicinal ethics issues and clinical practice, challenges posed by biotechnological innovation and medical research and ethical and justice issues in modern health care systems. She collaborates with colleagues, lawyers, social scientists, philosophers, health economists and psychologists. She is a member of various national, international and university committees, regularly advises major international research consortia and gives talks for all kinds of audiences. She joined the »Philosophy of Science« department of the Leopoldina in 2020 and advises governmental and political institutions on health care matters. She is a fully qualified doctor with degrees in philosophy and sociology.
