Dorothea Kirschbaum's back at Oper Frankfurt, where she directed Eötvös' Tri sestry / Three Sisters, Schönberg's Pierrot lunaire (in the Bockenheimer Depot) and jumped in to finish directing a new Eugene Onegin, for the first ever staged performances in Frankfurt of Wolfgang Fortner's Don Perlimplín's Love for Belisa in his Garden. During the 2022/23 season projects included Hänsel und Gretel at the Stadttheater in Pforzheim and the world premiere of Ich.Alma in the Richard Wagner Museum in Bayreuth. Recent productions included L’elisir d’amore at the Tirol Festival in Erl and Rigoletto at Theater Krefeld and Mönchengladbach. She worked as a director's assistant at Oper Frankfurt from 2013 - 2019, where she directed several operas for children and tailored dialogue and semi-staged concert performances of Der Graf von Luxemburg and Die Csárdásfürstin. She worked as a director's assistant at the Landestheater in Schleswig-Holstein from 2010 – 2013. Dorothea Kirschbaum worked on productions whilst still a student in Berlin, working with Sebastian Baumgarten, among others. She then worked as an assistant in drama and opera at Theater Bonn and the Komische Oper Berlin and assisted Keith Warner at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen and the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg. Dorothea Kirschbaum was awarded a scholarship from the European Centre of Arts in Hellerau in 2004 for direction and dramaturgy and was a finalist at the 2008 Ring Award Directing Competition in Graz. She co-founded the Musiktheaterwoche klang!Festival - opera for young people - in Bielefeld in 2016.
