Tatjana Gürbaca

Tatjana Gürbaca is back at Oper Frankfurt, where she made her debut with Dallapiccola's Ulisse, (»Rediscovery of the Year« at the 2022 International Opera Awards), which was followed by Halévy's La Juive, for this new production of George Benjamin's Written on Skin. Born in Berlin, she studied at the Hanns Eisler University for Music in her home town and won the 2000 »Ring Award« in Graz. The spectrum of her productions ranges from the baroque (Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in Baden-Baden) to grand opera (Berlioz's Les Troyens at Oper Graz) and contemporary works including Dallapiccola’s Il prigioniero (Volksoper in Vienna) and, most recently, the world premiere of Beat Furrer's The Great Fire (Zurich Opera). »Opernwelt« magazine voted her Director of the Year 2013 for her Parsifal in Antwerp. She was Opera Director at the Staatstheater in Mainz from 2011 – 2014 and works at leading opera houses around the world, most recently at De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, the Vienna State Opera, Opéra de Lyon, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, National Opera in Prague, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Staatsoper in Hannover, the Aalto Theater in Essen and, regularly, at Zurich Opera. Other important projects have taken her to the Deutsch Oper Berlin, Cologne Opera, Theater Bremen and Theater an der Wien, where a three part Ring project emerged. Future plans include Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Hamburg State Opera and Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea in Lyon.
