Elisabeth Stöppler, who also directed Neunzehnhundert / Nineteenehundred (an evening with works by Zemlinsky, Schönberg, Mahler and Joneleit) for Oper Frankfurt in the Bockenheimer Depot, has held the post of House Director at the Staatstheater in Mainz since 2014/15, were her new production of Mathis der Maler will open soon. Recent productions there have included Norma (a co-production with the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen), Dialogues des Carmélites, Medea, Faust (from the Oldenburgischen Staatstheater) and Simplicius Simplicissimus. She is currently working on a new Lulu for the Nationaltheater in Weimar. Other places where she has directed in recent seasons have included the Staatsoper in Berlin, the Semperoper in Dresden, the Hamburg State Opera, the Staatsoper in Hannover, Staatstheater in Nürnberg, Oldenburgischen Staatstheater, Theater Heidelberg and the Staatstheater in Braunschweig. She won awards for her Benjamin Britten cycle Trilogie der Außenseiter / Trilogy of Outsiders - Peter Grimes, Gloriana and The War Requiem at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen: Peter Grimes won her the 2009 den »Götz-Friedrich-Preis« and the »Förderpreis NRW«. Elisabeth Stöppler studied the piano at the Musikhochschule in Hannover, acting in Rome and opera direction in Hamburg. She held an »Akademie Musiktheater Heute« scholarship from 2001-2003, winning the Deutsche Bank Stiftung's Förder Prize for her diploma production.
