The Spanish baritone Juan Jesús Rodríguez is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time. He is one of the most impressive baritones in the world and much sought after for Verdi roles. He has performed Conte di Luna (Il trovatore) and De Guiche (Cyrano de Bergerac) at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he returns to sing Ford in Falstaff. Other recent engagements have included Germont (La traviata) at the Hamburg State Opera, Macbeth in Avignon and Marseille, Renato (Un ballo in maschera) at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and La Coruña, Guido di Montfort (I vespri siciliani) in Valencia and Rigoletto at the Teatro Real in Madrid and other theatres. Future plans include Rodrigue in Don Carlos at the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, the title roles in Simon Boccanegra and Nabucco in Marseille, Miller in Luisa Miller at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Jago in Otello at Zurich Opera and Enrico Ashton in Lucia di Lammermoor in Bilbao. Juan Jesús Rodríguez began his career at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid and conductors with whom he has worked have included Zubin Mehta, Nicola Luisotti, Renato Palumbo and Marco Armiliato.
