The American baritone Brian Mulligan is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he sang Conte di Luna (role debut) in the new production of Il trovatore earlier this season, to sing his first Nelusco in this new production of Meyerbeer's L’Africaine. His roles for the company in recent seasons were Golaud (Pelléas et Mélisande), Tadeusz (Die Passagierin / The (female) Passenger), Prospero (The Tempest) and Amfortas (Parsifal). He will be adding three new roles to his repertoire soon at San Francisco Opera, where his many roles have included Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor), Marcello (La Bohème) and Richard Nixon (Nixon in China): Donner in Das Rheingold, Gunther in Götterdämmerung and Mandryka in Arabella. Recent engagements have included Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) and Jeletzki (Pique Dame) at Zurich Opera, Captain Balstrode (Peter Grimes) at the Vienna State Opera, Paolo Albiani (Simon Boccanegra) at the Metropolitan Opera New York and John Proctor (The Crucible) at the Glimmerglass Festival. Brian Mulligan has appeared at many other opera houses around the world, including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto and English National Opera in London. He graduated from the Juilliard School and enjoys a busy concert career, appearing with orchestras including the Cleveland, Houston and Chicago symphony orchestras. His first solo album was released in 2017 – Lieder by the American composer Dominick Argento.
