She is, unquestionably, one of the most unusual and versatile performers of our time. Whether on the operatic stage, concert platform or intimate setting of a recital – Marlis Petersen’s crystal-clear soprano, stupendous technique and inimitable capacity for making characters touching, credible and sensual is always totally convincing. Berg’s Lulu was her party piece for a long time, a role she sang at leading opera houses all over the world. She recently added new roles to her already enormous repertoire, which ranges from baroque to contemporary, including Salome, Alcina, Marie (Korngold’s Die tote Stadt / The Dead City), Maria Stuarda and Hanna Glawari in Die lustige Witwe / The Merry Widow, in a new production at Oper Frankfurt. This often voted „Singer of the Year“ has been tracking down the mysterious »Dimensions« of »being« in three recital programmes. Now she returns to Frankfurt in recital, with the pianist Stephan Matthias Lademann and violinist Gregor Hübner for Innenwelten / Intimate Worlds – a journey through hidden dreams and visions, and the title of one of her albums.
