The season, day by dayback to calendar
Luca Salsi wrote operatic history: he sang two lead roles at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in one day. The operatic world found out that the Italian baritone really has nerves of steel after he stepped in for Plácido Domingo, and enjoyed great success, as Don Carlos in Verdi's Ernani in 2015: Luca Salsi donned the Don Carlo costume, without having time to look at the score, in a completely unknown production, only half an hour after the opera house had rung him. In the knowledge that he still had to sing Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor that evening. Now audiences in Frankfurt have a chance hear this regular guest at international opera houses and festivals when he makes his debut at Oper Frankfurt – breathing life into Lieder in that most intimate form of performances, a recital, instead of portraying larger than life characters on stage.
