Cheered to the rafters by critics and public alike, Johannes Martin Kränzle appears regularly at leading European opera houses, the Metropolitan opera in New York and Bayreuth, where he was contracted to return this summer to repeat his wonderful portrayal of Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. This baritone was awarded the 2019 German Theatre Prize DER FAUST for his unique voice, performing presence, versatility and portrayal of Siskov in Frankfurt’s new production of From the House of the Dead. He returned to Oper Frankfurt last season, where he was a much loved and popular member of the Ensemble for many years, as the Dark Fiddler in Delius’ A Village Romeo and Juliet. His last recital in Frankfurt, which this 2011 & 2018 Singer of the Year (Opernwelt magazine) dedicated to middle european Christian and east european Jiddish traditions, made an unforgettable impression. His latest recording Das ewige Rätsel / The Eternal Enigma was voted into the top list by German recording critics in 2018. All the more reason to look forward to his next recital in Frankfurt!
