Our Ring was directed by Vera Nemirova. The wonderful, versatile set was designed by Jens Kilian, costumes by Ingeborg Bernerth, lighting: Olaf Winter, video: Bibi Abel. It is conducted by our General Music Director Sebastian Weigle.
DAS RHEINGOLD from 7pm May 19 (until May 31)
A world of Gods, giants and a people who live below ground comes into being during Wagner's nearly five minute long E flat, magical opening. Alberich steals gold from the teasing daughters of the Rhine by renouncing love, making a ring from it which grants him boundless power. Wotan, unable to pay the giants Fafner and Fasolt for building his castle, sets off with Loge to get his hands on Alberich's treasure. They take his ring from him too, which the giants demand they be given. The curse Alberich lays on it claims its first victim when Fafner kills his brother Fasolt. The gods move into Valhalla and Alberich swears revenge, the Rheinmaidens bemoan the loss of their gold.
