Alexander Borodin (1833–1887) Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor
Carl Orff (1895–1982) Carmina Burana – Cantiones profanae
Sebastian Weigle conductor
The Frankfurt Sing Academy, founded in 1922, is 1oo years old this year, a good enough reason to remember the world premiere of Orff's Carmina burana at Oper Frankfurt in June 1937, in which this chorus took part. The concert opens with Borodin's Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor, a popular work which is still effective without being staged or danced.
