Patrick Zielke, who sang the Farmer in last season's wonderful production of Carl Orff's The Clever Woman, is back at Oper Frankfurt to sing Peneios in Strauss' Daphne, a role he sang for the first time when made his house debut. He joined the ensemble at the National Theatre in Mannheim in 2017/18, where roles have included Baron Ochs (Der Rosenkavalier), King Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Landgraf (Tannhäuser), Hagen (Götterdämmerung), Leporello (Don Giovanni) and Rocco (Fidelio) and, in the summer of 2023, Lucifer in Handel’s Resurrection. This season this German bass sings Gurnemanz in Parsifal at the Staatstheater in Nürnberg, Hagen at the Staatstheater in Mannheim and the title role (role debut) in Boris Godunov in his home house in Mannheim.  Last season he sang Dikoj in Katja Kabanowa and Hagen / Alberich in Götterdämmerung at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart. Before joining the company in Mannheim he was a member of the ensembles at Theater Lucerne and Theater Bremen, where new roles included Daland (The Flying Dutchman), Gurnemanz (Parsifal) and Gianni Schicchi. Patrick Zielke won a Faust Prize as »Best Performing Singer 2020« for his Ochs auf Lerchenau at Theater Bremen. He studied at the University for Music in Stuttgart with Dunja Vejzović and has been working with the Austrian baritone Klaus Wallprecht for the last 10 years. He won prizes at the Concours Ernst Haefliger and Richard Wagner Competition.
