Johannes G. R. Boehner is an architect and consulting engineer with over 30 years of experience in managing technical aspects in theatres, the special requirements involved in programming repertoire, planning and implementing complex cultural construction projects, focussing on theatre and event technology. A passionate theatre ambassador, he combines expertise in design excellence, technical precision, and cultural understanding into an integrative planning approach that makes cultural venues functional and inspiring.
After working in Bavaria and Linz, he joined theatres and opera houses in German-speaking countries as specialist for artistic and technical operations. As a planner, consultant, and project manager in Bayreuth, and managing director for temporary cultural and event buildings, he was responsible for major projects in places including Vienna, Budapest, Berlin, Munich, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Addis Ababa, Paris, and Zurich.
He is Technical Director of the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt am Main, and responsible for the artistic and technical management of opera and theater. He is responsible for day-to-day stage operations and preparatory work for planning and implementating one of Europe's largest cultural construction projects.
As a member of the board and head of the Austrian Theatre Technical Society (OETHG)'s "plan.build.renovate.operate” and the official Austrian delegate to the OISTAT Architecture Commission, he's actively involved in the international development of technical standards and artistic individualisation in cultural construction. His aim is to combine technical expertise, creative thinking, and strategic management to create spaces in which emotions, culture, and technology come together and be experienced at the highest artistic level—in keeping with his motto, “Art needs technology—technology needs art.”
