Born in Tiflis (Georgia), the soprano Nino Machaidze has made a name for herself at many of the worlds leading opera houses, including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, Paris Opéra, Bayerische Staatsoper, Berlin Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Scala Milan, Teatro Real in Madrid, Vienna State Opera, the Liceu in Barcelona, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels and Los Angeles Opera. During the 2018/19 season she added two new roles to her repertoire: Antonia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Naples and Massenet's Manon at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. She also sang Verdi's Luisa Miller in Hamburg and Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) in Amsterdam. Other recent engagements have included Nedda (Pagliacci) in Geneva, Mathilde (Guillaume Tell) in Palermo, Rosina in the Arena di Verona, Leïla (Les pêcheurs de perles) in Los Angeles, Violetta (La traviata) in Naples, the title role in Thaïs in Barcelona, Contessa di Folleville (Il viaggio a Reims) in Copenhagen, Gilda in San Francisco, Pamyra (Le siège de Corinthe) at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and Luisa Miller in Zürich and 2019 Salzburg Festival. During the 2019/ 20 season she makes her debut in Japan, as Mimì, at the New National Theatre in Tokyo and her house debut at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, as Amina (role debut) in La sonnambula. She is appearing for the first time at Oper Frankfurt, as Desdemona in this production of Rossini's Otello, which she also sang when it first opened at the Theater an der Wien in 2016.
