Santiago Sánchez, who was born in Uruguay and grew up in Alicante, is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, in this new production of Manon Lescaut. He sings the Count of Lerma in a new production of Verdi's Don Carlo at the 2020 Salzburg Easter Festival. Recent engagements have included Alfredo (La traviata) at the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza, Mozart's Requiem at the Teatro Ristori in Verona, Soliman (Zaide) and Don Asdrubale (Lo sposo deluso) in a production of Mozart excerpts at the Tirol Festival in Erl. He has also sung a Fiery Gambler (The Gambler) at the Vienna State Opera, an Apprentice (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) at La Scala Milan, Danieli (Les vêpres siciliennes) at the Immling Festival and Nemorino (L'elisir d'amore) at Oper Schloss Maxlrain. His repertoire includes Mozart's Tamino, Lenski (Eugene Onegin), Podestà (La finta giardiniera) and Oronte (Alcina), which he sang whilst still a student. After studying in Spain he went to the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where he is now completing his masters degree with Mario Diaz and Paulina Tukiainen.
