Maren Favela has appeared often at Oper Frankfurt since leaving our Opera Studio, most recently as Giannetta (Le cantatrici villane), Popelka (Martinů's Komödie auf der Brücke / Comedy on a Bridge), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Cephisa (Telemann's Orpheus), Amore / Tibrino (Cestie's L’Orontea - available on CD, OehmsClassics) and Fräulein Dangeville in Adriana Lecouvreur, which she sings again this season. This mezzo-soprano was a member of the ensemble at Theater Basel for the 2016/17 season, during which her roles included Kasturbai (Glass’ Satyagraha), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Carrie (Carousel) and Curra (La forza del destino). Other engagements in recent seasons have included 2nd Naked Woman (Moses und Aron) at the Opéra National de Paris, Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) in Limoges, Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (American debut) under Edo de Waart, and Mercédès (Carmen) with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Maren Favela has also performed at the Opera de Oviedo, Lucca Opera Festival and the Handel Festival in Karlsruhe. She was born in Mexico City and grew up in Germany. She studied with Cheryl Studer and then Hedwig Fassbender at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt. She was a prize winner at the 2015 »Les Mozart de l’Opera« competition at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris.
