Anja Kampe is one of the world’s leading singers. She set very high standards for many of the roles she has sung, including Sieglinde, Isolde, Senta, Kundry, Tosca, Minnie (La fanciulla del West) and Leonore (Fidelio) and appears regularly at leading theatres around the world including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Opéra national in Paris, the Munich, Hamburg, Dresden and Berlin state operas, La Scala Milan, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Teatro Real in Madrid and the Bayreuth, Salzburg Easter and Glyndebourne festivals, working with conductors including Kirill Petrenko, Christian Thielemann, Daniel Barenboim and Valery Gergiev. She comes from Thüringen, studied in Dresden and Turin and was named a Bavarian Kammersängerin in 2018. She appeared at Oper Frankfurt for the first time in 2008, as Lisa in Pique Dame. Engagements this season include Sieglinde at the Staatsoper in Berlin, Leonore at Zürich Opera and her long-awaited debut at the Met in New York, as Senta. She returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper, where she enjoyed great success sing her first her first Katerina Izmailovas in 2017, for Kundry and Minnie.
